What Makes An Design Tours Special?

Away from the crowds. Living here for over a decade I have come to know many fascinating places of cultural richness where most visitors to Kyoto do not go. Rather than spending time amongst large crowds and noisy tourists we will share intimate moments together in pristine and peaceful locations of deep cultural importance.

Authentic and from the heart. This is not a part-time job or something I do simply to earn a living. The work I do in learning about the sites I share with my guests, and the act of sharing the sites themselves, is part of my lifelong spiritual journey which focuses on making myself a better person, enriching the lives of others, and ultimately making this world a better place.

The true nature of Kyoto. If you only visit the well-known parts of this city you unfortunately may come away from your time here thinking this was a bit of a touristic town. By veering off the regular tourist route we will enter into the deeply spiritual and majestic atmosphere here that is like no other on Earth. With me you will experience the true nature of Kyoto.

“What a super great experience! Very unique, great story telling, amazing spots..it’s a flow of information, impressions, talks, walking around and seeing things you wouldn’t even recognize by your own. Andrew has a calmness while describing the gardens that was so peaceful.
For all who appreciate a mix of history, design, landscape, nature or just want to know something new we highly recommended! Thanks again Andrew!”

“Wow! This was our 3rd trip to Kyoto Andrew took us to places away from the crowds, unique places that we hadn't discovered before. He is so knowledgeable and kind, present in the moment so that the two afternoons with him were the highlight of our Japan trip. Andrew immerses you in the place and time and helped create meaningful memories for us and even gave us super useful tips for other great sites in Kyoto.”

“Through the lens of the Zen garden Andrew brought to life the religion, society, history and culture of Kyoto. He brought our focus to the meaning of the rock gardens so prevalent in Kyoto and the temples and garden choices. He answered the many questions we had about living in Japan and experiencing it as a foreigner who worked with Japanese gardens. He enriched our trip immeasurably and I’d recommend this tour to everyone visiting this exquisite city.”
